LIAM DAVIDSMEYER (l) and Clint Bigelow (r) ready themselves for the pitch. Both play in the slow pitch softball league that takes place at the Pittsfield Lake softball fields on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Normally there are two games a night, both highly competitive and up tempo. The league is run in a serious manner, with multiple umpires and standings being consistently updated for an end of season tournament.

THOMAS HULL stands on second base after singling and moving up on a walk. He would score on the next pitch, a bases clearing double as Trux extended their 6-1 lead in the 2nd inning. Trux jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, nearly batting around and plating six runs. Both teams showed some slick fielding, making it tough to get the ball out of the infield, unless it was on the fly.

NICK REEL jogs back to the dugout after narrowly missing a home run. Prior to the at bat, he looked into the camera, remarking “Get a picture of me after I hit this home run.” Reel put a quality swing the ball, unfortunately for him, the dimensions of the park had other ideas in what would be considered a warning track flyout. When not hitting, Reel manned a solid left center field, running down everything that came his way.

Chris Nichols (l), Dave Forshey (middle), and Matt Davidsmeyer (r) meet at home plat before the first of two games on June 26. The meeting was centered about the coin toss, allowing the winner to pick to be the home or away team. Ultimately, Davidsmeyer was declared the victor and opted for the home team. Nichols and Davidsmeyer are the captains of their respective teams.

Tristan Reel (l) steps out between pitches, while Faith Kirk (r) tosses the ball back to the pitcher. A unique part of slow pitch softball is how the strike zone differs from fast pitch softball. In slow pitch, the ball must cross through the zone from the front knee to the back shoulder. The pitches are thrown where they drop through thee zone from a higher point than fast pitch softball. This pitch was ruled a ball.
